Gulwali Passarlay: The Lightless Sky

Meet political refugee Gulwali Passarlay, author of The Lightless Sky, an unforgettable chronicle of Gulwali’s year-long odyssey from Afghanistan to England as an unaccompanied 12-year-old child refugee. Gulwali will be signing copies of his book after the talk.

Exiled Writers Music & Poetry Event

Redbridge Libraries and Exiled Writers invite you to an enchanting evening of music and poetry which will take you on a journey across the world. Musa Dembele from Burkina Faso will enthral you with the sounds of Africa. Poets Navid Hamzavi from Iran, Suhrab Sira from Afghanistan, Edin Suljic from the former Yugoslavia and Eleni Ca from Slovakia will perform a selection of their works. The evening will be compered by renowned Bengali poet and storyteller Shamim Azad, pictured.

David Rosenberg

David Rosenberg: Tales of struggle and solidarity

David Rosenberg, author of Battle for the East End (2011) and Rebel Footprints (2015), presents a lively talk exploring the history of Jewish economic migrants and refugees who settled in the East End from the early 1880s until 1905, when Britain’s first modern immigration law drastically diminished further immigration. He will describe the push and pull factors that brought them here, the challenges in their lives and stories of hostility and solidarity. David will be signing copies of his books which will be available to purchase after the talk. More details of David’s work at East End Walks.
